17th Annual Latiné Health Equity Conference
Seguiremos Sanando:
Culture, Identity, and Collective Well-being

Our call for proposals is open!

Proposals Due: January 12th, 2026

Presenters Notified: February 16th, 2026

Healing – mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and socially – is deeply intertwined with our cultural identity. Healing as a community is rooted in Afro-Latiné and Indigenous traditions. By reclaiming our ancestral knowledge, honoring traditional healing practices, and speaking our truths in the language that carries our histories—Spanish, Indigenous languages, and Spanglish— we can thrive!

There are many practices and approaches our communities have cultivated to promote and engage in healing. Familias en Acción invites our community to submit workshop proposals for breakout sessions that showcase research, innovative practices, outcomes of programs and services, advocacy, and community engagement efforts focused on healing of all kinds.

Ideas for Breakout Sessions:

As you are brainstorming ideas for a proposal, take a look at the guiding questions and session examples below.

Guiding Questions:

  • What are healing practices you have experienced rooted in Latiné culture and identity?

  • In what ways has your community thrived despite the impacts of oppression, and what can we learn from these experiences?

  • When do you feel most connected to your community? How does this support health and well-being?

  • How does intergenerational resilience show up in healing?

  • How does art help us express emotions and heal?

  • What stories or sayings did you grow up hearing that support health and wellness?

  • What does healing in community look like?

Language as Healing: Embracing bilingualism and heritage languages not only strengthens communication but also restores dignity and identity. Language was uplifted as a vital tool for healing intergenerational wounds and fostering connection.

Cultural Practices as Medicine: From curanderismo to storytelling to community rituals, participants highlight the importance of cultural traditions in restoring balance and well-being. These practices offer community-based alternatives that complement Western models of care.

Values-Led Wellness: Familismo, respeto, comunidad, and espiritualidad are foundational values that inform a Latiné-centered model of health. Honoring these values supports culturally relevant interventions and more inclusive systems of care.

Intergenerational and Collective Healing: There are lasting impacts of historical and systemic trauma—including colonization, migration, racism, and displacement—and community-led healing is a powerful path forward. Healing, here, is not only individual but communal and liberatory.

Breakout session length will be determined once proposals are selected. We will only consider proposals for presenters who are able to be in-person in Portland, Oregon on May 15, 2026.
