Huerto de la Familia will present on the organization's work providing Latino immigrant families with garden plots and associated services so families can connect to their roots and the earth while growing organic food. Gardening allows families in the program to increase the amount of fresh, organic produce they eat, along with giving them the opportunity to preserve traditional recipes and cultural heritage around growing food.

Marissa Zarate
Executive Director, Huerto de la Familia
​
Marissa Elena Zarate is Executive Director of Huerto de la Familia. Marissa graduated from University of Oregon School of Law and holds a B.A. in Peace Studies from Chapman University. Prior to joining Huerto de la Familia, she worked in the fields of immigration law and environmental justice.
Danielle Hummel
Organic Garden Program Manager and Farm Program Coordinator, Huerto de la Familia

Danielle Hummel graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in City and Regional Planning. After graduating, she moved to Eugene where she developed a passion for building community through food and farming. Prior to joining our team, she worked as a farmer at Horton Road Organics. She has a passion for language and travel, and she is fluent in Spanish and French. In her free time, she enjoys riding her bike and and adventuring with her furry friend Maizy.
